The Bikes and there Mods

We are going to use same brand of bike, by doing that we should be able to bring more spare parts with us and also we don't need as big collections of tools to fix them. Also the modifications will be easier when all the bikes are the same. After researching other travelers stories we have decided to use the Suzuki DR650SE, a simple robust machine that has proven its solid design over the last 18 years. Luggage system

After a lot of discussion we decided to go for a hard luggage system. We went for a setup the Icelandic brothers, Sverrir and Einar used when they traveled around the world. Hope they mind we are "stealing" there idea. The Pelican cases are made from plastic and are supposed to handle everything, yes EVERYTHING. They had a lifetime warranty before I drilled holes in them and are water and dust proof. I made the mounts myself and I want to thank Walter for the access to his workshop to do that. 1550 cases were used on the sides and 1520 case is on top.

I went for orange cases.



The Silver Fox (Viggó) he went for silver cases on his bike.


We glued leather over the bolts heads inside the cases to prevent them damaging the bags we got made to fit inside the cases.


Here come some photos of the mounts I made. The cases were mounted to them using 6mm bolts with large washers on each side. Rubber sealing did I made from motorbike tube and they were put on each side under the washers to keep the cases waterproof.


Long range fuel tank

We put a changed the original 14 L fuel tank with a Australian safari fuel tank made by RV Aqualine. These plastic tanks are 30 L and should give us a range of 600 km. The tanks can be bought from here.


Heated grips

Oxford heated grips
were fitted that have been fitted that are connected to the electrical system of the bike. It has four power settings, 40- 100% and if we forget to turn it off when the bike is parked it automatically turns off when the battery voltage drops below 11.6 V.
